Inductions

Induction development or consultation

Your guide to putting the right message, process and content in your employee inductions.

Induction is a way of introducing your new staff to the organisation and role. It can vary in length and size, in process and in content.  Frequently contact centre inductions will differ from wider organisational inductions because there is a cost effective need to meet. Generally there has been a bulk recruitment and several people are learning the same or similar job at once.

From the onset of employment, there is one certainty - both the employer and new employee is starting to work out if they made the right decision in entering the work agreement. This is where the  real engagement (or disengagement) process begins.

The employee questions: The employer questions:
  • Is what I heard in the interview congruent with what I am experiencing now?
  • Is this organisation going to help me grow?
  • Are there really opportunities for me and how long will it take?
  • Is the person I report through to going to care about me?
  • Can I do this job?
  • Will I be treated fairly?
  • Will they show me how to do the job properly?
  • What is the culture and environment that I've been employed by?
  • Can I trust these people?
  • Are these performance objectives realistic?
  • Will they listen to what I have to say?
  • Did they oversell their skills and capabilities in the interview?
  • Do I have a good employee here?
  • Will they follow the rules?
  • Will they be a good contributor to our organisation?
  • Is someone home and is the light switch on?
  • How long will it be before they perform competently?
  • Can I develop this person?
  • How long will they be here for?
  • Will they handle our customers and business partners with respect?
  • Will they fit in with the team?

So, what is being taught to your staff right now?

The workplace induction is where opportunity begins to set new staff on the right path, to set perspectives at the right level, it provides you the opporunity to get the right message to them, to engage and introduce appropriately, and where people can:

  1. Learn about the role
  2. Learn about the organisation
  3. Get familiarity with resources
  4. Meet and greet essential staff
  5. Establish key relationships
  6. Integrate
